The Deeds of Petey and Keek

The Deeds of Petey and Keek is an online comic that chronicles the adventures of two mischievous siblings. It was inspired by one of my daughters when she was about 4 years old and had devised a way of tattling on her sister. She came into the kitchen one day, indignant, and began:

“Mommy?!” she demanded.

“Yes?”

(Exasperated sigh) “Petey was sitting there, reading a book, and then KeeeeeK came in, and, tookitawayfromhim.” She curled her lip back in a sneer when she said “KeeeeeK.”

“Oh,” I replied, “well that wasn’t very nice of Keek.” I paused my dishwashing. “Who are Petey and Keek?”

“The two little spiders, that live in my shoe,” she replied matter-of-factly.

“Ohh I see. And did Petey tell Keek to give the book back?”

“Yes.”

“And did he?”

(Grudgingly) “Yes.”

“Well then things are okay again, right?”

She grumbled that she guessed so but was clearly still annoyed and wanted to tell on her big sister just the same. I was charmed by the stories of Petey and Keek that unfolded over the months and was sorry when she outgrew them.

Several years ago, I developed the concept into a comic strip, which is published under my pen name, Penny N. Hall. You can keep up with The Deeds of Petey and Keek on their website and Facebook page.
